The challenge is one we must stay ahead of, ensuring we remain acutely aware of the specific retailer or CPG challenge, as well as the broader market pressures that are in play.

The Research Associate will serve a critical role in this, supporting both our Commercial and Innovation teams with incisive analyses that distils even the most complex issues into a simple, digestible, and actionable format. You will act as the Retail Insight’s market and intelligence expert, helping us to engage directly with our target market and driving our key decision-making right across the organisation and ultimately providing input into our corporate and growth strategy.

In this role, you’ll get to

  • Capitalise on the latest market insight and news to construct operational, financial, strategic and innovation themed research briefs on the leading retailers and CPGs across the globe
  • Support the Commercial team in formulating comprehensive and hyper-personalised points of view, often within rapid turnaround, owning the relevant research workstreams to deliver on our strategic and growth objectives
  • Design, scope, implement and manage primary field research tasks in-line with the needs of the business to provide strategic guidance and tactical support to the Commercial, Marketing and Innovation teams and objectives
  • Serve as the SME within the company for all internal Retail Insight knowledge and content, primarily through owning and developing our knowledge management capabilities
  • Become the domain expert on the retail and CPG market and competitive landscape, through maximising all relevant research platforms; AlphaSense, PitchBook, IGD, and Crayon
  • Perform deep-dive analysis and reviews of the latest technology in the retail industry, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cognitive technology
  • Own the end-to-end research funnel; from articulating a problem, creating a hypothesis for the solution, collecting and analysing data, and then presenting the results to internal and external teams
  • Regularly contribute to Retail Insight’s external marketing, content and PR activities, developing your own point of view and becoming a recognised market expert on retail operations and in-store analytics
  • Provide analysis for prospective new product and market expansion opportunities

We are looking for people who

  • Have 2+ years experience working within a relevant vertical; research, business analyst, strategy analyst
  • Have a keen interest and/or experience within the retail industry
  • Can use their strong analytical thinking to provide advanced synthesis and develop deep expertise in specialised research tools to support market research, especially through leveraging quantitative financial reports
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and have a proven ability to create clarity
  • Possess excellent logical thinking with the ability to understand complex concepts and draw conclusions by analysing available information
  • Comfortable working with a range of technology, with an interest and ability to quickly upskill on new platforms, systems and understand new technological concepts
  • Are a proven self-starter; confident, organised, detail-oriented, and methodical
  • Comfortable interacting with people at all levels, including senior stakeholders
